Lacking Assurance From Those We're Supposed To Trust
Recently there has been many reports of women and children who are missing in our nations capital Washington D.C.
Due to previous incidents with the authorities families of those missing have little faith that things are being taken care of. Prior to this some officers on the force have done things to deteriorate their trust with the citizens that they were hired to protect and serve. In December of 2013 veteran officer Linwood Barnhill Jr. was sent to prison for prostituting teenagers in Southeast Washington. One month after that another officer was sentenced for taking inappropriate photographs of 15 year old girls. Subsequently we now ask ourselves how can we trust them if they're doing the exact thing we wish to stop?" According to Courtland Milloy a journalist working for the Washington Post states that "The disappearance of black women and girls has long gone under-reported. And the lingering resentment and mistrust caused by two D.C. police officers who had exploited teenage girls made their pitch a hard sell”. In 2015 there were reportedly 2,433 juveniles missing and 2,242 in 2016. Although the numbers are decreasing there are still too many of our girls going missing without explanation.
